Two 120Hz displays, 12GB of RAM & more
Tecno kind of had a two-part announcement for its first foldable smartphone. Yesterday, it technically announced the phone at MWC, but with barely any details. Now, we have plenty more details to go on. The Tecno Phantom V Fold is the name of the device, and it has now been properly unveiled.
This is a book-style foldable
This is a book-style foldable, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in terms of layout. The device has a large inner display, accompanied by a rather large cover panel. Each of those displays has a display camera hole on it.
A circular camera module sits on the back of the phone. All of its physical buttons are placed on the right-hand side, regardless of whether the phone is folded or not. Its power/lock button does double as a fingerprint scanner, by the way.
The Tecno Phantom V Fold has been unveiled with two 120Hz LTPO displays
Now, the phone’s main display is a 7.85-inch foldable panel. It has an 8:7 aspect ratio, and Tecno claims it has a “virtually invisible crease”. We didn’t really see it in person, though, so we’ll have to wait and see. Tecno did use a “self-developed, aerospace-grade drop-shaped hinge”, though. Tecno claims that the phone’s screen crease measures just 0.11mm, and that the phone has been tested for 200,000 folds.
That display has a 2296 x 2000 resolution, and it’s an AMOLED panel. This is also an LTPO display, and offers a 120Hz refresh rate. The second panel is a 6.42-inch unit, and it’s a fullHD+ (2550 x 1080) AMOLED display. This panel also offers a 120Hz refresh rate, and has a 21:9 aspect ratio. This is also an LTPO display. Both panels go from 10-120Hz, by the way.
It is fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC, and offers 12GB of RAM
The Tecno Phantom V Fold is fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC. The company also included 12GB of RAM inside of the device, along with 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. Tecno used LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage.
A 5,000mAh battery is included inside of this phone, and it supports 45W wired charging. Tecno says that you can get up to a 40% charge in only 15 minutes. A full charge will take you about 55 minutes.
The phone has three cameras on the back. A 50-megapixel main camera (custom 1/1.3-inch sensor, f/1.85 aperture, 7P composition) is backed by a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 50-megapixel telephoto unit (2x optical zoom, 20x digital zoom). On the main display, you’ll find a 16-megapixel camera, while a 32-megapixel unit sits on the cover panel.
Android 13 comes out of the box with Tecno’s custom UI
Android 13 comes pre-installed on the phone, along with HiOS13 Fold skin. The device comes in Black and White colors, and it measures 159.4 x 140.4 x 6.8mm when unfolded. When folded, it measures 159.4 x 72.0 x 14.2-14.5mm.
We still don’t know when will this phone become available to purchase, nor what its price will be. If Tecno shares more info during the day, we’ll make sure to update the article.
