What Are the Specs and When Can You Buy It?

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Here are the specs, release date, and the all-important price.

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The high-end flagship sits alongside the S23 and S23+ in the range and offers a superfast processor, an incredible 200MP main camera with up to 100x zoom, and the ever-popular S Pen.

The 23 Ultra can be pre-ordered now and it will be available from February 17th.

Galaxy S23 Ultra Key Specs

The S23 Ultra is the most premium phone in the Galaxy S range. It’s also the most expensive, priced closer to the iPhone Pro Max than a rival Android phone like the Pixel 7 Pro.

Although it’s a fairly modest update over last year’s device, it still comes with some impressive features that help it stand out in the field.

As always the Ultra is the phone for users who want the absolute best that Samsung (and arguably, Android) has to offer. The processor is the same across all three devices in the series, with the “For Galaxy” branding that is exclusive to these models.

The Ultra sports a new, larger cooling system that should help to keep heat under control when gaming. It also offers more RAM if you want it, more storage, a bigger, higher resolution display, a bigger battery, and more.

You also get, for better or for worse, what Samsung calls the Edge Screen—a display with curved edges that looks very sleek but is not universally popular. And there’s the built-in S Pen, which ensures that the Ultra phone continues in its role as the Galaxy Note replacement.

But the biggest selling point as far as Samsung is concerned, is the camera. There’s a new, much-leaked main camera sensor with a massive 200MP resolution, along with telephoto lenses that offer 3x and 10x optical zoom. Software will push the so-called “Space Zoom” up to 100x and is something that Samsung is very proud of.

The new Expert RAW will also support professional-level photography, including low-light “Nightography.”

Galaxy S23 Ultra Price and Availability

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is available for pre-order now via the Samsung website and is available from February 17th. Unsurprisingly, the price tag is pretty steep, starting at $1199 and rising to $1399 for the 12GB/1TB model.

Do remember, though, that Samsung has the best most generous update policy among all Android manufacturers, with four years of OS and five years of security updates. With so much power on offer, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to keep the phone for the full five years.

The Best of Samsung

The S23 Ultra shows much of the best that Samsung has to offer—at least until the company’s next-gen folding devices launch in the summer. But while this is the device that will appeal to the power user, it’s the regular Galaxy S23 that is likely to be the default choice for most users this year.
